Widely used for dealing with aggressive fuels and chemicals, FKM rubber can withstand prolonged contact that would rapidly degrade other rubbers. It is these hard-wearing qualities that make FKM popular with the oil and gas industries. It is highly resistant to oils, heat and aggressive chemicals. FKM can operate at temperatures above 200 degrees and can withstand steam, acids and hydrocarbons too.

Gasket paper is basically sheeting that is used in the making of gaskets. The sheeting is purchased in various sizes and thicknesses. The gaskets are then cut out of the sheet. Gasket paper can be made from a variety of robust materials including nitrile, silicone rubber and cork. The new gasket will then form a leak-proof seal when fitted to pipework or machinery.

FKM rubber gaskets are made of fluoroelastomer, a synthetic rubber that is known for its hard wearing properties. The material is used for O-rings, seals, gloves and most importantly for this blog post, FKM is used for gaskets.
