Nitrile Nylon diaphragms are made from a base of nylon with a polymer coating of Nitrile rubber. The nylon provides flexibility, while the Nitrile coating has superb resistance to oil, fuel and other chemicals.
Nylon was originally used as a silk substitute for parachutes in World War Two but has since then been used for a variety of applications. However, Nylon fibres used for more industrial purposes too, such as rope, suspension lines and harness straps.
Because of its oil resistant properties, Nitrile rubber is often used in the production of print rollers, fuel hoses and gaskets. The more Nitrile present in the polymer, the more oil resilient it becomes. Nitrile is also used in laboratories for disposable examination gloves as it is resistant to many aggressive chemicals.
So therefore, the two main materials used in Nitrile Nylon diaphragms combine to produce diaphragms with superb chemical resistance and pliability. These properties make the diaphragms very useful in a variety of industries, from textiles to automotive. The diaphragms are increasingly being used as fuel pumps in both the USA and the Far East. Their excellent fluid sealing properties and ability to move seamlessly between positions make them ideal for this. Both Harley Davidson and Honda USA have started to use these the diaphragms for their motorcycle fuel pumps.
The diaphragms can also be used for other applications, specifically where a moving barrier is required that has resistance to oil, solvents and LPG.
